The branding for this food truck had to communicate the elegance and quality of the espresso and gelato it serves.
The flowing and sophisticated curves of the letterforms represent the smooth, creamy textures and scooping motions of the gelato as wells as the slowly swirling steam from the espresso. The large, ornate ampersand really emulates these swirly, creamy forms and acts as a standalone design element throughout the branding. A minimalistic mid-century Italian style was utilized to create a classic yet modern feel around the Italian treats. The company’s name ‘Nissa’ is a combination of the owner’s daughters names so we had the older daughter of 6 years old trace the original logo concept, then the rough traced lines were incorporated to replace the original smooth lines. This works in the handmade nature of the treats along with involving the family and inspiration.
The colors chosen are a red and cool minty greenish blue to represent the hot espresso and cool, soothing gelato respectively. The cream and espresso brown refer the the ingredients used in these foods. they all combine to continue the feel of 1950s Italian colors.
